This vase was fired in a community wood fired kiln at Blue Ridge Community College. We work together to load, fired and unload the kiln. The process takes around ten days. After loading the kiln we work together to fire the kiln. Wood has to be added to the kiln every 10 to 15 minutes for 4 days. On e it reaches temperature we give it one last stoke and close it up. The kiln then cools for about 4-5 days and then we work together to unload the kiln and get it ready for the next firing. 

There is no glaze on this piece. The colors come from the wood ash that's deposited on the piece as the fire moves through the kiln.
